Merry Christmas vs Happy Holidays
So let me vent a little bit about this peeve I have. I didn't fully understand the peeve until I dated a Jewish guy. I never knew how slighted they were throughout the year and especially during "THE" Holiday Season. THE. It's like THE city. (Which I'm guilty of saying in Boston when referrring to NYC) Let's state here that I was raised catholic and LOVE Christmas. I'm not Catholic anymore (I check the Spiritual box on most social profiles) but Christmas is still my favorite season. Getting invited to holiday parties (even though they are decorated with Christmas trees and Christian themed items) is right up my alley and when my friends invite me to Christmas parties at their house, I have NO gripe about the non-PC cards they send. But when other businesses, especially those courting me for MY business, send out Christmas cards (which blatantly say Merry Christmas) I get fired up. I cannot decide if it's ignorance or the sheer hate of the Jews that determines which cards they choose to send out but either way, I think it's ignorant and highly unprofessional. Hey, I can almost understand the malls decorating for Christmas and throwing the menorah bone in the corner by the restrooms as they cater to the masses. But when a small business owner, a small business owner who owns a SEND OUT CARDS business (yes, their BUSINESS is sending out cards and getting other people to buy this business to send out more cards) chooses to send me a Merrry Christmas card instead of a Happy Holiday card, it just reinforces the fact that all vendors are not created equal.
